SHENZHEN, Jun 5 : Pakistani students participating in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-2026 Global Final have expressed admiration for China’s technological advancements, innovation-driven development, and the hospitality extended by Huawei during their visit to Shenzhen.

The students, representing Pakistan at the prestigious global competition, shared their experiences after visiting Huawei’s exhibition hall and the company’s renowned R&D campus in Dongguan, describing the experience as eye-opening and transformative.

Muhammad Umar Farooq, a member of Team Route Hunter from Islamabad’s FAST National University, explained that reaching the global final was the result of a highly competitive selection process.

“It was a rigorous journey,” he said. “We first competed in the national round against teams from across Pakistan. The shortlisted teams then participated in a regional online competition. After securing second position, our team became the only Pakistani representative in the Innovation Track at the global final.”

Umar Farooq said the competition has provided invaluable international exposure and opportunities to engage with talented students from around the world.

“One of my main expectations was to connect with brilliant minds, learn about emerging technologies, and broaden my perspective. Visiting Huawei’s facilities has helped us gain a deeper understanding of technological trends and future opportunities in the professional world,” he said.

Reflecting on Huawei’s extensive technological portfolio, Umar Farooq admitted that his previous perception of the company was limited.

“In Pakistan, many people think Huawei only makes mobile phones and routers. It was amazing to discover that Huawei is involved in telecommunications, energy, cloud services, commercial solutions, and many other industries. It was truly eye-opening.”

Another Pakistani participant, Hira Khurshid from COMSATS University Abbottabad Campus, described her participation in the global final as a matter of great pride.

“It is an incredible honour to represent Pakistan on a global stage among students from all over the world. This is not only a personal achievement but also an opportunity to showcase the talent and potential of Pakistani students,” she said.

Sharing her impressions of China, Hira Khurshid highlighted the country’s rapid development and widespread adoption of advanced technologies.

“We visited several places in China and were impressed by the country’s development and progress. One thing that stood out was the large number of electric vehicles, which contribute to cleaner air and a better environment,” she noted.

She also pointed to China’s leadership in artificial intelligence, citing practical examples she encountered during her stay.

“Even simple toy cars in markets were equipped with AI-based controls connected to mobile phones. It shows how deeply technology has been integrated into daily life.”

Talha Asghar, another member of the Pakistani delegation from FAST National University Islamabad, said the visit had significantly changed his perception of China’s technological capabilities.

“We never imagined China would be this technologically advanced,” he said. “During our visit to Huawei headquarters, we learned about cutting-edge developments and advanced AI products. It made us realize that we need to participate in more international competitions and technology expos to understand global trends and compete effectively.”

Commenting on cultural similarities, Talha Asghar noted that while Pakistani and Chinese cultures have distinct characteristics, there are numerous commonalities in infrastructure and technology.

“Many systems and technologies used in Pakistan have Chinese origins. This creates a sense of familiarity when visiting China,” he said.

Looking ahead, Talha Asghar said his experience at Huawei had inspired him to pursue a career in research and development.

“After visiting Huawei’s campus, I believe it is every technology student’s dream to work there as a researcher. I would certainly like to pursue such opportunities in the future.”

He also encouraged fellow students to experience China firsthand rather than relying on stereotypes.

“Many perceptions about China are shaped by external narratives. However, when you actually visit the country, you find a completely different reality. China is modern, innovative, and welcoming. I would definitely consider pursuing higher education here.”

Nauman Sajjad, a student of Lahore Garrison University praised the hospitality extended by both Huawei and the Chinese people.

He said the Pakistani students felt warmly welcomed wherever they went and appreciated Huawei’s efforts to accommodate the dietary requirements of Muslim participants.

“Huawei provided certified halal food, and we were very satisfied with the arrangements,” one student remarked. “The Chinese people were friendly and hospitable, making us feel at home throughout our stay.”

The Huawei ICT Competition is one of the world’s leading technology talent platforms, bringing together outstanding students from universities across the globe. For the Pakistani participants, the event has not only provided an opportunity to compete internationally but has also offered valuable insights into China’s innovation ecosystem, technological leadership, and expanding educational opportunities.

The students agreed that their experience in Shenzhen has broadened their horizons and strengthened their determination to contribute to Pakistan’s future technological development through innovation, research, and international collaboration.
