SHENZHEN, June 6 : A Pakistani instructor participating in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-26 Global Final has described the event as a transformative platform that is empowering young talent, strengthening Pakistan-China educational ties, and opening new avenues for technological advancement.
Talking to media on the sidelines of the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-26 Global Final Awards Ceremony in Shenzhen, Saqib Hussain, an instructor at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, shared his inspiring journey from being a student contestant to mentoring a team of students on the global stage.
Saqib recalled that his association with Huawei began in 2019 when he participated in the competition as a student. His team secured second position in the Middle East regional competition, an achievement that encouraged him to pursue a career in teaching and mentorship.
“My Huawei journey started back in 2019 as a student participant. Our team won second position in the Middle East competition, and my instructor, Dr. Fahim Yar Khuhawar motivated me to become an instructor myself,” he said.
Returning to the competition in 2026 as a mentor rather than a contestant, Saqib described the experience as particularly meaningful because he was accompanying students he had personally trained at Mehran University.
“Today, I am here with my own students whom I trained. Seeing them perform exceptionally well and excel in their careers is a very proud and precious moment for me,” he added.
Discussing Huawei’s impact on his professional growth, Saqib said his perception of the company expanded significantly after becoming involved in its educational programs.
“Initially, I thought Huawei was mainly a mobile phone company, but through the competition and training programs, I discovered opportunities in networking, cloud computing, and many other technology sectors,” he explained. “Huawei has opened new pathways for learning and professional development.”
Encouraging Pakistani students to explore international educational opportunities, Saqib emphasized the importance of studying in China, which he described as a global leader in technology and innovation.
“My message to the younger generation is to visit China and pursue higher education here. Whether it is a master’s degree or a PhD, students can benefit immensely from China’s advanced technological environment,” he said.
He noted that students selected for the Huawei ICT Competition become ambassadors for their universities and communities, inspiring others to pursue excellence in science and technology.
“When students see their peers representing Pakistan in China, they realize they can achieve similar success. This motivates others and creates a positive impact on educational institutions across the country,” he said.
Highlighting Huawei’s contribution to Pakistan’s IT sector, Saqib pointed out that top-performing participants often receive internship and employment opportunities with the company, helping talented graduates launch successful careers.
“Students who finish among the top performers are often offered internships and, later, employment opportunities. This creates valuable career prospects for young professionals,” he noted.
Reflecting on his visit to Shenzhen, Saqib expressed admiration for the city’s modern infrastructure, technological advancement, and rapid development.
“What impressed me most were the roads, high-rise buildings, and the integration of technology into daily life. Even transportation systems and navigation services are highly coordinated and efficient,” he said.
He was particularly amazed by Shenzhen’s remarkable transformation over just four decades, describing it as a powerful example of what can be achieved through vision and sustained effort.
Asked whether Pakistan could replicate Shenzhen’s success, Saqib stressed the importance of discipline and consistency.
“One thing I observed in China is the commitment and consistency with which people carry out their work. If Pakistan adopts the same level of dedication and persistence, then, God willing, it can also emerge as a future technology powerhouse,” he said.
The Huawei ICT Competition Global Final brings together outstanding students and educators from around the world, providing a platform for technical excellence, innovation, and international collaboration. Pakistan’s strong representation at this year’s event reflects the growing capabilities of the country’s youth and the expanding technological cooperation between Pakistan and China.
