BEIJING, Oct 8 : China has nominated Dr. Song Li to run for director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on said Thursday.
Mao made the remarks at a press briefing in response to a question about the election for WHO director-general.
She said the WHO plays a leading and coordinating role in global health governance, and the role of its director-general is particularly important as global health faces new challenges. China’s nomination of Song reflects China’s willingness to work with all parties to promote the building of a global community of health for all, as well as its firm support for multilateralism and the WHO, Mao stressed.
China believes that if elected, Song would help the WHO play a more active role in improving the health and well-being of people around the world, she added.
