BEIJING, Oct 8 : China has nominated Dr. Song Li to run for director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on said Thursday.

Mao made the remarks at a press briefing in response to a question about the election for WHO director-general.

She said the WHO plays a leading and coordinating role in global health governance, and the role of its director-general is particularly important as global health faces new challenges.
