Pakistani scientist receives nusiness license as Xiaoshan’s market entities surpass 300,000

HANGZHOU, June 16: Xiaoshan District in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province, marked a major economic milestone as the total number of registered business entities surpassed 300,000, highlighting the district’s dynamic business environment and innovation-driven growth.

To commemorate the achievement, a special license issuance ceremony was recently held at the Xiaoshan District Government Service Center. The event was attended by senior district officials, including Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and District Administrator Jiang Yongzhu, Deputy District Administrator Sun Jianping, Director of the District Market Supervision Bureau Lu Yi, and Director of the Xiaoshan District Supervision and Management Office Chen Yanhong.

Among those receiving a business license was Pakistani scientist Professor Muhammad Yousaf, Principal Investigator of the Advanced Micro-Nano Energy Storage Research Unit at the Future Science Research Institute of Zhejiang University. Smiling as he accepted the certificate, Professor Yousaf described the occasion as an important step toward commercializing advanced battery technologies developed through years of scientific research.

After founding Ba Na Chuang (Hangzhou) Battery Technology Co., Ltd., he plans to focus on transforming laboratory breakthroughs in rechargeable battery technology into industrial-scale applications.

Professor Yousaf earned his PhD from Peking University and later conducted advanced research at Zhejiang University. Over the course of his academic career, he has published more than 70 research papers in leading international journals, including Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), Advanced Materials, and Energy & Environmental Science. His research has attracted over 3,400 citations, while his scholarly impact is reflected in an H-index of 27 and an i10-index of 43.

As a principal investigator, he has secured four national and provincial research grants worth more than 5.3 million yuan. His contributions have earned him several prestigious honors, including the Qianjiang Friendship Ambassador Award (2025), Hangzhou City’s “115” Foreign Talent Introduction Project Award (2024), Zhejiang University’s Youth Talent Excellence Program Award (2021), the Shuimu Tsinghua Scholar Program recognition (2021), and the Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship (2018).

He also serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Nano Research and Applications and is a Guest Editor for Discover Nano and Discover Sustainability.

Officials said the rapid growth in Xiaoshan’s business sector has been supported by innovative governance measures and efficient public services. Since the beginning of the year, the district has introduced three intelligent analytical systems covering business entity management, centralized registration, and migration trend analysis.

Using comprehensive data-driven tools, authorities have identified 881 industrial and business clusters, helping transform market supervision from traditional experience-based approaches to modern, data-enabled governance.
