BEIJING, June 1: China and the United Kingdom will hold in-depth discussions on expanding practical cooperation and addressing major international and regional issues during the upcoming 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.
Responding to a question regarding the visit of UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to China and her participation in the dialogue, Lin described the China-UK Strategic Dialogue as an important high-level mechanism for communication between the two countries.
He noted that amid increasing global turbulence and uncertainty, strategic communication between China and the UK, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, has acquired greater practical significance.
According to Lin, the two sides will exchange views on implementing the important consensus reached by their leaders, strengthening practical cooperation, and jointly addressing international and regional hotspot issues. The discussions aim to promote the sustained and deeper development of the China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership and ensure that bilateral cooperation delivers greater benefits to both nations and the wider international community.
Lin added that details regarding the arrangements for the visit will be announced in due course.
