BEIJING, May 14: During a high-profile meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People, U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a warm and highly complimentary opening statement, emphasizing friendship, mutual respect, and future cooperation between the United States and China.
President Trump described the reception in Beijing as “an honor like few I’ve ever seen before,” expressing particular admiration for the children who welcomed the delegation. He said the children were “happy” and “beautiful,” adding that they represented the spirit and future of China.
Reflecting on his relationship with President Xi, Trump stated that the two leaders had maintained one of the longest and strongest relationships between leaders of the two countries. He noted that despite occasional challenges, both sides had consistently managed to resolve issues through direct communication.
“We’ve had a fantastic relationship,” Trump said. “Whenever we had a problem, we worked it out very quickly.”
The U.S. president praised Xi Jinping’s leadership, calling him “a great leader,” and said he openly expressed this view despite criticism from some quarters. He also highlighted the presence of leading American business executives in the delegation, describing them as among the “biggest and best in the world.”
According to Trump, the top executives enthusiastically agreed to join the visit and were eager to expand trade and business cooperation with China. He stressed that future economic relations would be based on reciprocity and mutual benefit.
Trump further described the summit as potentially historic, saying some observers considered it “maybe the biggest summit ever.” He added that the meeting had attracted enormous attention in the United States, with Americans “talking about nothing else.”
