BEIJING, July 12: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the creative sector including expanding avenues for films funding and international promotion.
Talking to filmmaker Umair Nasir Ali, director of internationally acclaimed film Nayab who called on him during his official visit to Beijing, he acknowledged potential of cinema as tool of soft power and national storytelling.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the growing global recognition of Pakistani cinema and the role of cultural diplomacy in shaping Pakistan’s international narrative.
Nayab recently won the Special Jury Award at the SCO Film Festival in Chongqing, China, adding to its impressive list of accolades from film festivals in Europe, North America, and South Asia.
The Minister congratulated Umair Nasir Ali on the film’s success, calling it “a proud representation of Pakistan’s creative voice on the world stage.”
The two sides also spoke about the film’s central themes — resilience, national identity, and a quiet but profound sense of patriotism.
Umair Nasir Ali expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Information and the Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEMP) for their continued support in promoting cinema that is both meaningful and globally relevant.
