China and Pakistan have agreed to expand their counter-terrorism cooperation, with both countries pledging to share intelligence and coordinate military operations more closely. This comes in response to growing security threats in the region, particularly from militant groups operating near their borders.
Pakistan has long been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism, with its military conducting numerous operations against extremist groups. However, the resurgence of terrorist networks in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s tribal regions has raised concerns about regional stability. China’s involvement in these efforts underscores its growing interest in securing its western borders, particularly in Xinjiang, which has seen unrest attributed to Uyghur separatists.
Both countries have a shared interest in countering terrorism, as instability in Pakistan could threaten the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Security along the CPEC route, which passes through volatile areas, remains a top priority for both nations. This cooperation aims to safeguard the multi-billion-dollar project from attacks and ensure the safety of Chinese workers in Pakistan.Additionally, China and Pakistan will conduct joint counter-terrorism training exercises to improve their capabilities in combating militant threats.
