BEIJING, Oct 16: Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday reiterated China’s support for a two-State solution to the Palestinian question, calling it the fundamental path toward resolving the long-standing conflict.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Mao said the Palestinian question lies at the heart of the Middle East issue and stressed that ongoing regional conflicts should not divert international attention from the situation in Palestine.

She called for the effective implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and emphasized the need to ensure humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, amid persistent tensions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Mao also highlighted four principles recently put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping for resolving the Palestinian question: upholding the two-State solution, respecting the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine,” upholding humanitarianism, and promoting fairness and justice.

According to Mao, these principles demonstrate China’s sense of responsibility as a major country and reflect the international community’s call for justice.

She reaffirmed that China would continue to stand on the side of international justice and work with peace-loving nations to support the two-State solution.

China, she added, remains committed to promoting a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question at an early date.
